Tiger Woods is likely to skip the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship for the third time since the tournament was established in 1999, according to a report by ESPN's golf writer, Bob Harig.
Because no official announcement has been made, and Woods hasn't yet commented, the reasons for Tiger potentially skipping the event remain unclear.
Perhaps it's his recent results in the event: he's won the tournament three times, but not since the event moved to Dove Mountain in 2009. Twice, as Harig notes, he has lost in the first round of the competition, including last year to Charles Howell III.
In a different article also filed on Wednesday, Harig writes that simple congestion might be driving Tiger to alter his schedule:
"The year basically gets pretty congested starting at the British Open," Woods said Wednesday following his pro-am round in Dubia. "I take (the week of the Canadian Open) off but then it's Firestone (WGC-Bridgestone), then a week off, then all four playoff events, and then for the Americans there's a Ryder Cup or a Presidents Cup every year."And now with this new wraparound schedule (on the PGA Tour) going on, I think we're all trying to get our heads literally wrapped around it and trying to get a feel for it. It's very different."
