The 2025 Farmers Insurance Open Recap
San Diego, CA – Harris English has won the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. This marks his first win in over 1300 days, and his 5th PGA Tour career win. With this title, he vaulted to fourth in the FedEx Cup Playoff standings, secured full PGA status through 2027, and also earned $1.674 million.
It was a brutal final day of golf as cold windy conditions caused many of the world’s best players to shoot over par rounds. English to his credit, hung in there and carded pars on the last 12 holes to shoot a final round 73 and 8-under par for the tournament. Relying on his short game, he made up and downs look easy, saving par numerous times to outlast all his other competition. He was only the third player in the tournament’s history to win with a final round over par.
English only won the tournament by a single stroke though, and the player who nearly took it from him was Sam Stevens. While numerous others were shooting in the 70’s, Stevens put a run of four birdies on his front nine, but ultimately came up just short, carding a 68 for the day, and a score of 7-under par for the tournament.
This was a difficult week for some of the world’s best players. Other notables like Hideki Matsuyama, Ludvig Åberg, and Sahith Theegala would all finish at one-over, three-over, and five-over par for the tournament respectively. Undoubtedly, each of those players will look to improve their play when they are back to play Torrey Pines for the Genesis Invitational. While that event is traditionally held at Riviera, it was announced that the venue would change due to the recent wildfires in LA. That event will be taking place just three weeks from today.
Next week the tour stays in California with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Last year, Wyndham Clark won his third PGA event there. This year, he’ll look to defend the title and will be up against Jordan Speith who will be playing in his first event of the season following a wrist injury. Scottie Scheffler will also be making his debut after a gold-banner season last year.
